In a nutshell, this game is a passion project born of some beautiful memories I had growing up playing Secret of Mana and Megaman X with my brother and sister, combined with a desire to tell a rich emotional story alongside the fast-paced and rich gameplay my previous work has impressed so deeply upon me.
The first installment is the story of Phalanx (pronounced Fei-lynx), a young woman who leaves her merchant family to become a ceremonial guard in the futuristic empire of her utopia world. Through no fault of her own, the civilization falls. Humanity is essentially wiped out and she wakes up, 400 years later, as the last surviving human being.
It is here that her story truly begins; in a world where her family has been wiped out, ridden with guilt, she must come to accept this new world, forgive herself and get back up to discover the truth behind the force that wiped out her people. Far from a 'chosen one' story - the three main characters of Atomech are highly flawed, broken and struggling to define their path forward. Phalanx struggles with her inability to prevent the fall of civilization and guilt at letting her family perish. Coil, a cyborg who barely survived the genocide, has withdrawn from the world, becoming a selfish recluse. Echelon, a mere spark of programming left behind by the former ruler, is single-minded and lacks empathy, focused wholly on completing his final mission.
As these three strangers struggle to find common ground and work together, it is my hope that our game has the same effect - helping three people who've never met to learn how to play, grow and succeed together.
